Background: Electric cars are a present reality. Nearly every automotive manufacturer, foreign and domestic, has announced the introduction of new electric vehicles or plans to do so in the very near future. The demand for plug-in electric cars is expected to increase dramatically through 2025. One study from a major U.S. university speculates that by 2030 electric cars will account for 64 percent of all U.S. light-vehicle sales. It is a reasonable proposition that electric vehicles owners in single family residences with garages have a ready-made solution to charging their vehicles. The unanswered and unaddressed question is where will residents of high rise residential units charge their vehicles, and where will urban commuters who park their cars in public or private multi-level garages re-charge their vehicles for the return commute. It has been estimated that these parking spaces represent in excess of 75 percent of the parking spaces in major urban areas east of the Mississippi.
